Dr. Donna Jackson is a Senior Lecturer in American History at the University of Chester's Department of History & Archaeology, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has taught at multiple UK universities including the University of East Anglia and Queen Mary, University of London. Her research focuses on American foreign policy during the Cold War, particularly US-Soviet relations and policy toward Africa, culminating in her monograph US Foreign Policy in the Horn of Africa: From Colonialism to Terrorism.
Education: BA (Hons) in American History and Politics (UEA, 1993-1997), MA (Distinction) in American Studies (UEA, 1998), PhD in History (University of Cambridge, 2002).
Research interests include Cold War dynamics, African diplomacy, and constitutional history. Recent work explores Senate debates over UN ratification in 1945 and contrasts historical vs modern American global leadership. She contributes regularly to media commentary on US presidential elections and Cold War legacies.
Teaching includes modules on American constitutional history, black America's social movements, and Cold War diplomacy. She advises postgraduate research on American foreign policy and has supervised projects recognized internationally by the National Trust.
Honors include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2008). Community engagement includes heritage curation at St Peter’s Church, Woolton (John Lennon’s former parish).
