Donna Amato is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Pittsburgh and an Assisting Artist at Carnegie Mellon University. She holds a BMA from the University of Arizona. Her expertise lies in classical and contemporary piano performance, with a focus on works by composers like Kaikhosru Sorabji, Edward MacDowell, and Carson Cooman. She has received prestigious awards including the Diploma d'Onore from Guido Agosti's masterclass and recognition from the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Her career spans international performances, including debuts with orchestras in Europe and the U.S., and world premieres of Sorabji's Fifth Piano Symphony and Fifth Piano Concerto. She is noted for her recordings of challenging works, including Sorabji's compositions and MacDowell's complete piano sonatas. Her teaching emphasizes both traditional and contemporary repertoires.
Ms. Amato has collaborated with leading composers and ensembles, contributing to the revival of rarely performed works. Her discography includes over a dozen albums on labels like Alto, Naxos, and Altarus, showcasing her versatility across classical and modern piano literature.
