Dongsheng Zang is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law, where he teaches International Law, Chinese Law, and related seminars. He joined the faculty full-time in 2006 after serving as a visiting professor (2005-06). His research spans international trade law, comparative Chinese law, and constitutional theory in cyberspace.
- Education: S.J.D. and LL.M. from Harvard Law School (2004, 1996), LL.M. from Renmin University (1994), LL.B. from Beijing College of Economics (1991).
His work examines surveillance states, data privacy, and legal responses to AI. Recent articles in University of Pittsburgh Law Review and Wisconsin International Law Journal analyze data ownership and cyber-sovereignty. He has presented at institutions including Harvard, Cornell, and Tsinghua University.
Scientific Awards:
- 2004 Yong K. Kim '95 prize for his S.J.D. dissertation on international trade jurisprudence.
Professor Zang frequently comments on rule of law erosion in Hong Kong, appearing in Vox, France24, and El Mercurio. He has served as a panelist for the Washington State Bar Association and University of Washington climate law events.
