Dr. Dongchen Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University, where he has held this position since 2023. He is also an adjunct professor at Brock University. His expertise lies in stochastic optimization and its applications in insurance, finance, and economics, with a focus on actuarial science. Dr. Li holds a PhD in actuarial science from the University of Waterloo (2017) and previously served as an assistant professor at the University of St. Thomas (2017–2021) and Brock University (2021–2023).
His research interests include optimal (re)insurance design, principal-agent problems in insurance, variable annuities, data science in insurance, and digital transformation in the insurance industry. His work has been published in top-tier journals such as Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, ASTIN Bulletin, and Journal of Risk and Insurance. His current research is funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).
Dr. Li is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and actively contributes to professional actuarial organizations. His research explores cutting-edge areas like machine learning applications in insurance and the digital evolution of insurance markets.
His academic journey includes affiliations with multiple institutions, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to advancing actuarial science and its practical applications in risk management and finance.
