Donata R. Henry is a Senior Professor of Practice and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Education in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University. She also serves as Associate Director of the Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching. Her academic career focuses on integrating field-based pedagogy, ornithology, and conservation with innovative teaching methods.
Dr. Henry leads long-term ecological research at the Honey Island Swamp bird banding station, studying avian responses to hurricane disturbances and forest succession. She designs interdisciplinary courses in ecology, ornithology, and natural history, including a field course in the Grand Canyon and study abroad programs in Stockholm. She also founded Girls in STEM at Tulane, an outreach initiative for middle-school girls, and co-founded the Audubon Abita Bird Club.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning, having guided students across Louisiana, Scandinavia, and the Gulf Coast. She has received the Weiss Presidential Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2019) and serves on multiple university curriculum committees.
