Nandadevi Cortes Rodriguez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Ithaca College, specializing in evolutionary biology, phylogeography, and molecular ecology. She advises the Tri-Beta National Honor Society and conducts research on avian population genetics and conservation. Her work focuses on Neotropical birds, particularly island populations, and their genetic diversity under geographic barriers.
Education includes mentorships under Drs. Blanca Hernandez-Baños, Adolfo Navarro-Sigüenza (UNAM, Mexico), Kevin Omland (UMBC), and others in postdoctoral roles at institutions like the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
Research interests include phylogeographic patterns, genomics of island bird populations, and avian song variation. Recent projects involve Ravens (Corvus corax), Orioles (Icterus spp.), and hummingbirds. She emphasizes conservation through genetic analysis and public engagement.
Received the Edwards Prize 2017 for best ornithological paper. Active in professional involvement, including AOS Diversity Committee promoting STEM diversity and outreach. Supervises student research in field ornithology and genomics, with recent student presentations at national conferences.
