Donal Sean Gill is an Assistant Professor (LTA) of Canadian Politics at Concordia University. Previously, he taught Political Science at Dawson College from 2016 to 2023, where he held roles including coordinator of the Law, Society, and Justice profile and Social Science Representative on the Academic Senate. He earned a PhD in Political Science from Concordia University (2020) and holds a BA in History and Politics (2008) and an MA in Politics from University College Cork (2010). His research focuses on party politics in Canada and Ireland, political ideology, and the political thought of Jonathan Swift. He is a frequent media commentator on Canadian and Quebec politics, appearing on CBC, CTV, and other outlets.
Publications include a forthcoming book (Politics, Power and the Common Good: An Introduction to Political Science, 7th ed., Pearson Education, 2025) and peer-reviewed articles on topics like anti-imperialism in Joyce’s Ulysses and Swift’s critique of progress narratives. He has received awards for teaching excellence and dissertation work. Dónal is involved with organizations like the Siamsa Montreal School of Irish Music and edits the Nuacht newsletter. His teaching portfolio includes courses on Canadian politics, political parties, and nationalism.
Notable contributions include articles on Thomas D'Arcy McGee in Maclean's and op-eds for the Montreal Gazette. His work bridges literary analysis with political theory, reflecting interdisciplinary strengths in Irish-Canadian history and political thought.
