Dr. Patrick McGee is a Professor of English at Louisiana State University (LSU), affiliated with the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the Department of Comparative Literature. He holds a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research interests span Critical Theory, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, Irish Studies, Modernism, and Romanticism. He has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the LSU Distinguished Research Master (2003), LSU Distinguished Faculty Award (2003), and the Tiger Athletic Foundation Award for Undergraduate Teaching (2001).
His scholarship includes influential books like Paperspace: Style as Ideology in Joyce's 'Ulysses' (1988) and Bad History and the Logic of Blockbuster Cinema (2012), as well as numerous articles on James Joyce, modernist literature, and film theory. His work often bridges critical theory with cultural analysis, examining themes such as ethics, postcolonialism, and political responsibility.
McGee’s recent publications focus on rethinking genres like the Western and exploring the intersection of cinema with historical narratives. His current project, Savage Ontology: Spinoza, Blake, Hugo, Joyce, Lawrence and Other Political Monsters, continues his engagement with radical thought and cultural critique.
