Don Sherman serves as Director of the New Horizons Jazz Ensemble and Green Jazz Band at the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS), University of Rochester. With over 25 years of experience teaching instrumental and vocal music in the Rochester City School District and active leadership in ECMS ensembles since 2014, he is a dedicated music educator and performer.
His academic background includes:
- Bachelor of Music from University of Wisconsin in Superior
- Graduate studies in Music Education at SUNY Fredonia
Mr. Sherman specializes in percussion performance, jazz education, and community music engagement. His career emphasizes innovative teaching methodologies, ensemble direction across diverse age groups, and accessibility in musical training. He has significantly contributed to K-12 music programs and community-based music initiatives through his leadership roles.
His distinguished recognitions include:
- Meritorious citation from the US Army for service as bandsman and lead percussionist

- Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation award for outstanding service to students and the music education profession
