Mike Melito is a renowned Drum Set Instructor at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, with over 25 years of experience as a jazz drummer and educator in upstate New York. He studied under esteemed percussionists John McNeill and Ray Mosca, and has released five critically acclaimed solo CDs while appearing on over 25 recordings as a sideman. His work has earned recognition from Downbeat Magazine, which featured him in a dedicated article.
As the house drummer for the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, Melito collaborates with legendary artists like James Moody, Benny Golson, and Barry Harris, and performs in the Bob Sneider Trio during late-night jam sessions. He has mentored numerous successful drummers who pursue careers in performance and teaching, emphasizing his significant role in nurturing musical talent.
Melito's career spans collaborations with prominent musicians such as Eric Alexander, Chris Potter, and Danilo Perez, underscoring his influence in the jazz community. His affiliations include the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS), where he contributes to programs like Summer@Eastman and Collegiate Faculty initiatives.
