Dr. Don Berry is Professor of Religious Studies in the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy at Gardner-Webb University, where he has been a faculty member since 1999. He holds a PhD and MDiv from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a BA from the University of Kentucky. His academic and professional journey includes roles as a church pastor, missionary, author, and professor across a 36-year ministry.

Dr. Berry's research centers on religious studies, particularly Islam and modernity, missiology, and global religious traditions. He has taught courses such as Religion and Culture in a Global Perspective, Islam, Judaism, Religions of India, and Cross-Cultural Missiology. His scholarship reflects a deep engagement with Islamic modernist thought, especially through the works of Fazlur Rahman, and explores the dynamics of religious revival and intercultural mission.
His publications include the forthcoming The Thought of Fazlur Rahman, Pictures of Islam (Mercer University Press), and Islam and Modernity Through the Writings of Islamic Modernist Fazlur Rahman. These works emphasize themes of reform, interpretation, and the intersection of faith with contemporary global challenges.
Dr. Berry has traveled to over fifty countries across five continents, enriching his teaching and research with firsthand cross-cultural experience. He has also expressed intellectual affinity with works such as Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and The Incendiary Fellowship by Elton Trueblood.
