Dr. Robert Canoy serves as Dean of the School of Divinity and Professor of Theology at Gardner-Webb University. He holds a B.A. from Mississippi College, M.Div. and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, with additional studies at Hebrew Union College, Tantur Ecumenical Institute (Jerusalem), and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
His research focuses on New Testament theology, eschatology, and Eucharistic theology. He teaches courses including Christian Theology I/II, Greek language studies, Revelation of John, and Doctor of Ministry seminars on worship ministry. Dr. Canoy organizes study tours to Israel, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey.
Prior roles include pastor at First Baptist Church (Shelby, NC) and faculty positions at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has extensive pastoral experience across multiple states. His publications include Atonement in the Apocalypse: An Expose of the Defeat of Evil and articles on biblical pedagogy for local churches.
Outside academia, he enjoys bicycling, basketball, woodworking, and travel with his wife Cynthia and their two adult sons.
