معرفی
Dominik Frühwirth is a Researcher at the Institute of African Studies within the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, actively engaged in contemporary African diaspora scholarship.
His research focuses on African Studies, Rastafari Movement historiography, Pan-Africanism, Religious Studies, Diaspora Studies, and Historical Studies. Frühwirth examines Rastafari's transnational connections to Africa through oral traditions ('Reasonings'), with specific attention to Soviet-era engagements and European diaspora communities. His methodological approach integrates historical analysis with ethnographic fieldwork, particularly in Austrian contexts.
He co-leads the ongoing research project "Rastafari 'Reasonings' on Africa in historical perspective" (2022-2027), funded by competitive research grants. Frühwirth organizes academic events including lectures by University of the West Indies scholars and "African Vienna" city walks with SADOCC. His media contributions feature prominently in commemorations of Emperor Haile Selassie I's 1954 Austria visit, including podcast specials and radio broadcasts.
Frühwirth's publication portfolio demonstrates interdisciplinary rigor across multimedia formats, book chapters, and radio productions. His recent works reveal consistent thematic focus on Rastafari as a living historical tradition, Pan-African ideological frameworks, and diaspora identity formation—particularly highlighting understudied connections between Africa, the Soviet bloc, and Central Europe.
