Dominic West is a Research Student in the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex. His current PhD research, funded by the be.AI Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship, focuses on the relationship between attention and predictive processing of speech, investigating how the brain predicts speech sounds under divided attention conditions. He joined the Auditory Cognition Group in 2023 under the supervision of Dr. Ediz Sohoglu.
Prior to his PhD, he completed a Neuroscience with Cognitive Science undergraduate degree at Sussex (2018) after transitioning from a Music Technology background via the Access to Higher Education (Science) distance learning program. He has also served as a Doctoral Tutor teaching modules such as Applied Psychology, Social Psychology, Individuals & Groups, Psychology of Childhood, and Programming for Experiments across Foundation Year, First Year, and M-Level programs.
His research interests bridge cognitive neuroscience and auditory perception, with a particular focus on how predictive coding models explain attentional effects in speech processing. Current work explores neural mechanisms underlying speech prediction under multitasking conditions.
