Dominic Grieve KC is a Visiting Professor in Law, Politics & Human Rights at Goldsmiths, University of London. He maintains an active legal career as a barrister at Temple Garden Chambers with an extensive Common Law practice, particularly in Health & Safety law. Grieve took silk in 2008 and has been a Bencher of the Middle Temple since 2004.
His distinguished career includes serving as Attorney General of England and Wales and Advocate General for Northern Ireland from 2010-2014, and as Chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament from 2015-2019. He represented the UK in significant cases before the Supreme Court, European Court of Justice, and European Court of Human Rights during his tenure as Attorney General. From 1997 to 2019, he served as Member of Parliament for Beaconsfield.
Grieve's academic and professional interests center on constitutional law, human rights, and the intersection of law with political governance. His work bridges theoretical legal scholarship with practical application in high-stakes governmental contexts, bringing real-world experience to his academic role.
He was appointed to lead an independent review into governance for Christ Church, Oxford in June 2022, and previously completed a governance review for Islamic Relief Worldwide. He is also a member of the Northern Ireland Bar, reflecting his cross-jurisdictional legal expertise.
Grieve received his education at Magdalen College, Oxford. Fluent in French, he maintains an active professional practice alongside his academic appointment, with his privacy notice updated as recently as November 2022.
