Dominic Erdozain is a Research Fellow at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. He holds a PhD (2003) and MPhil (1999) from the University of Cambridge, and a BA (1997) from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the intersection of American history, gun culture, and religious influences on political discourse. He is the author of One Nation Under Guns (2025), The Soul of Doubt (2015), and The Dangerous God (2015), and is currently working on the project Arming Jesus: God and Guns in America.
Erdozain’s work bridges historical analysis with contemporary issues, particularly examining how historical narratives shape modern debates on gun rights and democracy. He has contributed opinion pieces to CNN, TIME, and The New York Times, critiquing gun culture and advocating for evidence-based policy reforms. His research emphasizes the role of religion in shaping American political ideologies and the ethical dimensions of historical interpretations.
Before joining Emory, he lectured at King’s College London. His expertise spans American constitutional history, intellectual history, and the study of religious dissent in authoritarian regimes. He regularly engages with media and public forums to contextualize historical events and their implications for current societal challenges.
