Dr. Dominic Dagbanja is an Associate Professor of International Economic Law at Curtin Law School, part of Curtin University's Faculty of Business and Law. He holds multiple academic positions, including Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His educational background includes a PhD in Law from the University of Auckland, LLM degrees from George Washington University and the University of the South Pacific, and a JD from Murdoch University.
His research focuses on the intersection of public interest regulation and international economic treaties, particularly in Africa. Key areas include investment treaties, trade law, public procurement, and constitutional law. His monograph The Investment Treaty Regime and Public Interest Regulation in Africa (Oxford UP, 2022) proposes the Imperatives Theory to reconcile constitutional and international law frameworks.
Dr. Dagbanja has received notable awards, including the UNCTAD-SIEL Award for Research on Investment and Development (2020) and multiple teaching excellence awards at the University of Western Australia. His publications span leading journals like Transnational Legal Theory and Journal of International Economic Law.
He advises international organizations like UNCTAD and contributes to editorial boards of journals such as the Journal of World Investment and Trade. His career includes legal practice in Ghana and New Zealand, and he has taught at institutions globally, including the University of Ghana and the University of Auckland.
