Dominic Balog-Way is a Researcher (Research Associate, RTE Faculty) in the Department of Communication at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). He is a member of the Risk Communication Research Group and a faculty fellow at Court-Kay-Bauer Hall. His research focuses on risk, science, health, and environmental communication, with emphasis on scientific misinformation, strategic risk communication, public perceptions of energy technologies, and government transparency. He teaches Communication, Environment, Science, and Health (COMM 2850/STS 2851) and has extensive teaching experience in Europe and the U.S. on topics like risk governance and social science methods.
Dr. Balog-Way holds a BA in Geography, MSc in Risk Analysis, and PhD in Geography from King’s College London. He completed post-doctorates at Cornell and King’s and served as a visiting lecturer at Maastricht University. He chairs the Risk Communication and Risk Policy and Law groups at the Society for Risk Analysis and leads initiatives like Risk Communication Forums, GEOHUB (geothermal energy collaboration), and the Ditchley Group Forums on pharmaceutical benefit-risk communication.
He advises governments, businesses, and advocacy groups on risk communication strategies and has been an active member of the Society for Risk Analysis since 2011. His recent work bridges energy policy, public health, and cross-national risk perception studies.
