Dr. Domenico Carolei is a Lecturer in Public Law & Public International Law at the University of Stirling. He holds a PhD from the School of Law, University of Aberdeen (2015-2018) and is a qualified lawyer (Avvocato) with the Italian Bar Association since 2015. His research focuses on the accountability of non-profit organizations, self-regulation mechanisms, and international human rights law, with a particular emphasis on criminal law dimensions. He authored the book *Non-Governmental Organisations and the Law: Self-Regulation and Accountability* (Routledge, 2023) and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Carolei’s academic roles include tutoring at the University of Aberdeen in courses such as *Introduction to Legal Theory*, *Jurisprudence*, and *Legal Method*. He has received research grants, including the Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law Studentship (2015-2018) and the CB Davidson Bequest Trust awards (2015, 2016). His work critiques structural human rights challenges, corporate accountability gaps, and legal frameworks for multiculturalism.
Key contributions include analyses of the European Court of Human Rights’ jurisprudence on torture criminalization and studies on Roma rights in Europe. His interdisciplinary research bridges legal theory with practical governance challenges in global civil society.
