Professor Dodd Galbreath is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Practice at Lipscomb University, the first comprehensive academic sustainability program in the Southeast. He has held leadership roles appointed by Nashville mayors and Tennessee governors, serving on key committees such as the Metro Nashville Stormwater Management Committee and the Tennessee Board of Water Quality. His expertise spans environmental policy, water resource management, and sustainable development, with a focus on integrating academic research with real-world policy applications.
Professor Galbreath's research focuses on Earth systems, applied sustainability, and environmental policy. His work addresses climate change adaptation, water resource management, and wetland conservation, with a particular emphasis on policy frameworks and their implementation across different geographical contexts, including the U.S., China, and Europe. He has contributed to state-level environmental justice initiatives and water policy reforms, advocating for sustainable practices in both public and corporate sectors.
Awarded the Roberts Sparks Walker Lifetime Achievement Award by the Tennessee governor and environmental commissioner, he has also received two statewide leadership awards. His contributions include shaping environmental policies, such as the Tennessee Inter-Basin Water Transfer Act, and co-chairing one of the nation’s first state environmental justice plans.
Professor Galbreath has advised multiple municipal and state-level initiatives, including serving as chair of the Tennessee Board of Water Quality and the Metro Nashville Stormwater Management Committee. His career includes over four decades of experience in federal government, corporate sustainability consulting, and university research centers, demonstrating a commitment to bridging academic research with practical policy solutions.
As director of the Institute for Sustainable Practice, he leads a team focused on advancing sustainability education and research, fostering collaboration between academia, government, and industry to address environmental challenges.
