Dmitry V. Peryshkov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina (USC), within the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on inorganic and organometallic chemistry, with an emphasis on metal-free bond activation using redox-active carborane clusters and transition metal complexes. He holds a Ph.D. from Colorado State University (2011) and completed postdoctoral research at MIT under Prof. R. R. Schrock.
Education:
- B.S./M.S., Materials Science, Moscow State University (2004)
- Ph.D., Chemistry, Colorado State University (2011)
Research Interests:
His group explores synthetic strategies for molecular catalysts targeting substrates like dihydrogen, carbon dioxide, and organic compounds. Key areas include metal-free bond activation via carborane clusters, transition metal complexes stabilized by carborane ligands, and cooperative activation of small molecules with Lewis pairs. Techniques include air-free synthesis, spectroscopic methods, and structural characterization.
Awards:
- USC Breakthrough Star Award (2018)
- NSF CAREER Award (2017)
- ACS PRF Doctoral New Investigator Award (2014)
Grants & Funding:
- NSF (2022–2025): $456,907 for redox-active carborane clusters
- NSF CAREER (2017–2023): $709,725 for carborane cluster architectures
Teaching & Outreach:
Developed the multidisciplinary course “Chemistry of Renewable Energy” and contributed to the GEM GRAD program. Active in peer review for high-impact journals (e.g., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chemical Science). Participates in outreach events like Discovery Day and organized the Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC-2017).
