Dipak K Raj is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School, where he leads research in molecular parasitology and malaria vaccine development. He concurrently holds an Assistant Professor position at the same institution. Dr. Raj completed his PhD (2005) and BS (1996) at Utkal University.
His research focuses on:
- Molecular mechanisms of Plasmodium falciparum pathogenesis
- Pediatric vaccine development against malaria
- Identification of novel drug targets and transmission-blocking strategies
- Global health interventions for malaria-endemic regions including Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia
Publications primarily investigate malaria vaccine antigens (PfSEA-1, PfGARP, PfGBP130), antibody-mediated parasite inhibition mechanisms, and diagnostic methods for parasitic diseases. Recent work emphasizes apoptosis-inducing therapeutics and multi-target vaccine approaches.
Awards and honors include:
- New Investigator award by Lifespan (2011)
- NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship (2005-2010)
Dr. Raj leads the Center for International Health Research (CIHR) and manages significant grants including:
- NIH R01 AI144014 ($2M+, PI)
- Warren Alpert Foundation mRNA vaccine project ($4.5M, Co-I)
- COBRE P20GM1043 pediatric vaccine development
