Dimitris Bampasakis is a Lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire, with additional appointments as Visiting Lecturer. His research focuses on computational neuroscience, specifically neural modeling of synaptic plasticity and gain modulation mechanisms in cerebellar circuits. He investigates how inhibitory synapses influence neuronal input-output functions using computational approaches.
Bampasakis's publications explore cerebellar nucleus function, synaptic depression effects on gain modulation, and neurosimulation software interoperability. His doctoral research examined how short-term synaptic depression enables multiplicative gain modulation at inhibitory cerebellar synapses. Earlier work included biomimetic robotics, developing control strategies for octopus-inspired hyperelastic manipulators.
Research Highlights:
- Mechanisms of gain modulation in cerebellar nuclei neurons
- Determinants of input-output transformations in neural circuits
- Interoperability between neurosimulation platforms
- Biomimetic control of continuum robots
- University of Hertfordshire PhD Scholarship (2011)
- FORTH Training and Specialization Scholarship (2011)
