Roles & Affiliations: Dimitri Beeckman is a Professor of Nursing Science at Örebro University (Sweden) and Ghent University (Belgium). He serves as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Internationalization at Örebro University and leads the NEOLAiA European University initiative. He also holds visiting professorships at the University of Southern Denmark, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and Monash University (Australia).
As program director for the MSc in Nursing and Midwifery at Ghent University, he oversees future-proof clinical and research training programs.
Education: Ph.D. in Nursing Science from Ghent University (2011), thesis on pressure ulcer prevention.
Research Interests: Specializes in wound care (pressure ulcers, incontinence-associated dermatitis, skin tears), clinical trials, implementation science, and interprofessional education. His work emphasizes patient-centered, practical solutions and global impact. He leads the Swedish Centre for Skin and Wound Research (SCENTR) and Skin Integrity Research Group (SKINT).
His projects include developing risk assessment tools, validating clinical guidelines, and promoting digital education (e.g., PRONEtect project).
Articles & Focus: Recent work addresses smart medical devices, pressure injury trends, cost-effectiveness modeling of wound dressings, and cultural adaptation of clinical tools. Themes include skin integrity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and translational research.
Awards & Leadership: Fellowships from Sigma Theta Tau, European Academy of Nursing Science, and American Academy of Nursing. Former President of EPUAP and ISTAP, currently chairs the European Wound Management Association (EWMA).
