Karin Falk-Brynhildsen is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Nursing Science at Örebro University, Department of Health Sciences, within the School of Health Sciences. She holds a surgical nursing degree from the University of Gothenburg and a Medical Doctorate from Örebro University (2013). She joined Örebro University in 2014, following prior work as a surgical nurse in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at Örebro University Hospital.
Her research focuses on intraoperative care, emphasizing patient and staff perspectives, including clinical interventions, psychometric studies, and mixed-methods approaches. Key projects include the national/international 'Pressure Ulcer and Surgery' initiative, pedagogical projects on student-active learning in nursing education, and studies on geriatric care for catheterized patients. She collaborates with institutions like Karlstad University, Ersta Sköndal Bräcke, and Jönköping University.
Karin teaches at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, covering aseptic techniques, methodology courses, and clinical training supervision. She is a co-supervisor for four PhD students and has successfully guided Camilla Wistrand to graduation. She is affiliated with research groups such as Perioperative Care and Pedagogical Processes (PEPP) and the Swedish Centre for Skin and Wound Research (SCENTR).
Her contributions span over 30 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on infection prevention, surgical site infections, and nursing education. She actively participates in national and international collaborations, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare quality and patient safety.
