Karin Blomberg is a Professor of Nursing Science at Örebro University, Sweden, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She holds a PhD from Karolinska Institutet (2009) and became a docent in Medical Sciences at Örebro University in 2014. Her research focuses on relation-centred care, dignity preservation in palliative care, professional development in healthcare, and HPV vaccination strategies. She leads the 'Research in Palliative Care' group and contributes to the SCENTR (Skin & Wound Research) initiative. Blomberg has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, developed interventions for compassionate care, and serves on national and international advisory boards. Her work emphasizes clinical learning environments, interprofessional collaboration, and patient-centered approaches in both hospital and municipal healthcare settings.
Key roles include Deputy Dean (since 2019), Chair of Lärarförslagskommittén (LFK), and member of FORTE's scientific review panel. She has supervised numerous doctoral students and mentors early-career researchers. Blomberg's educational contributions span undergraduate to postgraduate nursing programs, emphasizing palliative care and clinical skills. Her current projects include dignity-preserving interventions for older adults and studies on disaster responders' health after major incidents like the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake. She also investigates HPV vaccination acceptance and the psychosocial impact of narcolepsy following Pandemrix vaccination.
Blomberg's research integrates qualitative and quantitative methods, emphasizing participatory approaches to healthcare improvement. Her work on the Swedish Dignity Care Intervention (DCI-SWE) has shaped municipal palliative care practices. She collaborates internationally on topics like compassionate care, healthcare ethics, and wound management in palliative contexts.
