Dimitri Beeckman is a Professor at Ghent University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Nursing Science. With a PhD completed in 2011 on 'Pressure ulcer prevention: evidence-based tool development and tailored protocol implementation to improve clinical practice,' he has established himself as a leading expert in wound care, particularly in pressure ulcers and incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).
His research spans multiple areas within nursing science and patient care quality, with a focus on developing evidence-based clinical guidelines, assessment tools, and prevention strategies. Dr. Beeckman has supervised numerous PhD students including Anika Fourie (2025), Charlotte Raepsaet (2024), Lynn Ghijselings (2024), Brecht Serraes (2024), and Tim Torsy (2023). His extensive collaborative network includes Sofie Verhaeghe (188 joint publications) and Ann Van Hecke (178 joint publications), reflecting his significant influence in the field.
Dr. Beeckman's recent publications (2024-2025) demonstrate a continued focus on pressure ulcer prevention in specialized populations (ICU patients, spinal cord injury patients), innovative wound care technologies like smart diapers, and comprehensive reviews of nutritional interventions for wound healing. His systematic reviews on glutamine and arginine in wound healing, prognostic factors for IAD, and patient experiences with medical adhesives represent significant contributions to evidence-based practice in wound care.
- Research Focus Areas:
