Dr. Dimi Kaneva is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at the University of Huddersfield, part of the School of Business, Education and Law. She is affiliated with the Huddersfield Centre for Research in Education and Society (HudCRES). Her research focuses on childhood studies, particularly exploring children’s voices and agency through creative, participatory methodologies. She leads projects such as the British Academy-funded LIME initiative (2023–2025), examining post-pandemic family life through play-based research, and an ESRC IAA project on speech-language support in early education (2025–2026). Her expertise includes qualitative research methods, English as an Additional Language (EAL), migration narratives, and decolonial curriculum practices.
Dr. Kaneva holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and has extensive experience in early years education across multiple international settings. She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and serves as an External Examiner for the University of Leeds’ Childhood Studies program. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and reduced inequalities. Recent research collaborations include projects with the University of Cape Town and initiatives focusing on arts-based storytelling in migration studies.
Her teaching and supervision span early childhood studies, qualitative methodologies, and inclusive education. She actively disseminates research through peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations, emphasizing child-centered approaches in academic discourse.
