Prof. Dr. phil. Dietmar Osthus is a faculty member at the University of Duisburg-Essen, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Institute of Romance Languages and Literatures. His academic career spans roles at the University of Bonn (research assistant 1997-2006, habilitation 2006) and interim professorships at Ruhr University Bochum (2007) and University of Duisburg-Essen (2008). He is a founding editor of the open-access journal metaphorik.de and has coordinated BMBF-funded campaigns like Sprache-Natur-Wissenschaft (2007).
- Research Interests: Language norms, metaphor/ metonymy analysis, historical sociolinguistics, digital humanities, and metalinguistic discourse in Romance languages.
- Scientific Contributions: Authored monographs on Portuguese language history (1700-1850) and co-edited conference proceedings across Germany, France, and Portugal. His 2014 article on the Westphalian Peace Congress' metalinguistic conflicts and 2012 work on internet-based language debates exemplify his interdisciplinary approach.
Editorial & Awards: He co-edited 20+ volumes on Romance linguistics and received the Prix de la République Française (1996) and Instituto Camões scholarship (1997).
