Prof. Dr. Dieter Pfaff is a Full Professor of Business Administration at the University of Zurich since 1994, leading the Chair of Accounting within the Institute of Business Administration. He served as Director of the Institute from 2011 to 2015. His expertise spans accounting, controlling, and internal control systems, with a focus on transfer pricing and performance measurement.
Prof. Pfaff holds a PhD and Habilitation from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (1988/1992), and has held C4 professorships at institutions including the University of Mannheim and TU Berlin. He is a renowned author and editor of academic works, including the authoritative 'Accounting according to the Code of Obligations.'
Research interests include corporate transparency, fraud detection, and strategic controlling. He chairs the Swiss Society for Business Administration and co-edits the journal Die Unternehmung. Awards include the 1989 Egon Zehnder Prize for his dissertation.
Prof. Pfaff collaborates extensively with professional bodies like veb.ch (Swiss Association for Accounting and Controlling), emphasizing practical applications of academic research. His teaching legacy includes large-scale courses on accounting fundamentals, blending technical rigor with real-world case studies.
