Diane Ryan is an Associate Professor at the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life and Affiliate Associate Professor in the Eliot Pearson Department of Child Study & Human Development (Arts and Sciences) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She also serves as the Associate Dean for Programs and Administration at Tisch College. Previously, she held roles at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), including Deputy Department Head and Director of the Eisenhower Leader Development Program with Columbia University.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Psychology from North Carolina State University, M.S.S. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, M.S. in International Relations from Troy University, and a B.A. in Psychology from College of the Holy Cross.
Her research focuses on leadership development, military ethics, gender dynamics in armed forces, and character education. Notable work includes studies on military hypermasculinity, transgender integration at West Point, and obesity risk among military personnel. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges psychology, education, and military policy.
Ryan’s career spans 29 years in the U.S. Army, where she held diverse command and staff roles domestically and internationally. She combines academic expertise with practical leadership experience to address complex challenges in civic education and military institutions.
