Diane M. Ring is a Professor of Law and the Dr. Thomas F. Carney Distinguished Scholar at Boston College Law School. She served as Interim Dean from summer 2021 to January 2023 and as Associate Dean of Faculty from 2018 to 2021. Her academic and administrative leadership has significantly contributed to faculty development, student diversity, public interest funding, and institutional accreditation.
Her research focuses on international taxation, corporate taxation, and ethical issues in tax practice. She has explored topics such as information exchange, tax leaks, corruption in taxation, international tax relations, the sharing economy, and human equity transactions. Her scholarly work bridges legal theory, policy, and global fiscal governance.
Ring has been actively involved in international tax policy through her roles as a consultant for the United Nations and the International Fiscal Association (IFA). She served as U.S. National Reporter for multiple IFA conferences and contributed to UN projects on tax base protection and treaty administration for developing countries. She also chaired the Tax Section Committee of Teaching Taxation for the American Bar Association.

She has co-authored three major casebooks in taxation covering corporate taxation, international taxation, and ethical problems in federal tax practice. During her time as Interim Dean, she led key initiatives including faculty hiring, development of new scholarly awards, expansion of diversity in admissions, and successful ABA accreditation. She also maintained community safety during the pandemic.
Diane Ring earned her A.B. and J.D. from Harvard University. Before entering academia, she practiced at Caplin & Drysdale in Washington, DC, specializing in international tax and financial instruments, and clerked for Judge Jon O. Newman of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
