A Professor of Neuroscience, she has led the Carney Institute since 2016 and previously served as interim director (2015). Her research focuses on voltage-gated calcium channels, particularly their cell-specific alternative splicing and roles in chronic pain, psychiatric disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.
- Education: PhD (1986) from University College London; postdoctoral work at Yale and Stanford.
- Research: Investigates calcium channel regulation, alternative splicing, and their implications in ALS, schizophrenia, and pain pathways.
- Awards: 2023 Landis Award for Outstanding Mentorship, 2022 American Academy of Arts and Sciences inductee, and multiple teaching/mentoring honors.
- Funding: Leads NIH- and NSF-funded projects on calcium channels, optogenetics, and initiatives to advance women and PEERs in neuroscience.
Her recent publications highlight advancements in bioluminescent tools for neuronal control, splicing mechanisms in pain pathways, and genetic modifiers in ALS. She actively promotes diversity in neuroscience through mentorship programs.
