Dr. Diane Lee is a Senior Lecturer at Murdoch University's School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, within the College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences. She is affiliated with the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Ecosystems and Harry Butler Institute. Her research focuses on wildlife tourism, environmental conservation, and tourism education, with an emphasis on socio-cultural impacts and stakeholder collaboration.
Dr. Lee holds a PhD in Tourism from James Cook University (2000), a Bachelor of Administration (1992), and a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (1996), all from JCU. Her work bridges tourism governance, community engagement, and sustainable development in regions like Nigeria, Vietnam, and Australia.
Her research explores transformative learning in study abroad programs, risk management in protected areas, and the application of social theories like Social Exchange Theory. Key themes include neo-colonial critiques in tourism, pandemic responses in Sapa, Vietnam, and ethical frameworks for wildlife tourism.
Dr. Lee has extensive experience in tourism partnerships, visitor safety protocols, and curriculum design for higher education. Her work emphasizes reciprocity in tourism development and the role of spirituality in pedagogical practices.
