Dr Diane Kraal is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University's Business Law & Taxation Impact Labs within the Monash Business School. Her research focuses on Australian taxation law and policy, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy taxation, natural resource taxation (including resource rent taxes and royalties), and energy justice. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, including comparative studies, historical research, and Bourdieu's social practice theory. Dr Kraal has held senior roles in financial management across sectors like mining, accounting, and academia, including eight years as Manager (Taxation and Banking) at La Trobe University.
Research & Projects: She leads and collaborates on major projects such as the RACE for 2030 CRC, investigating clean energy transitions, and the 'Energy Justice and Social Contract Project' in France. Recent outputs include analyses of hydrogen exports, electric vehicles, and tax policy in Australia and internationally.
Awards: Recipient of the 2018 Monash Business School Dean's Commendation and 2015 ANU Visiting Fellowship. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to climate action and sustainable development.
Advisory Roles: Committee member of the Energy Justice Project (Université de Pau, France) and participant in UN Climate Change Conferences (2018-2022). She has advised Papua New Guinea on petroleum tax reforms, influencing their 2017 National Budget.
