Diane Harriford is a Professor of Sociology and Director of the Africana Studies Program at Vassar College, where she has served since 1987. She holds academic affiliations with the Departments of Sociology, Africana Studies, and the Women, Feminist, and Queer Studies Program. Her work intersects with civil rights history and restorative justice, as evidenced by her participation in the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project. She earned her BA from Oberlin College and both MA and PhD degrees in Sociology from Stony Brook University.
Professor Harriford has been actively involved in community initiatives, including speaking at the dedication of a lynching memorial marker in Oxford, Mississippi, as part of the Lafayette Community Remembrance Project. Her research and advocacy focus on historical injustices and their contemporary implications, reflecting her commitment to social equity and institutional accountability.
