Dr. Diana Miranda is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Stirling, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her work focuses on the intersection of criminology and sociology, examining biometric and data-driven technologies' impacts on surveillance, identity, and suspicion. She actively engages in policy-informed research, contributing expertise to bodies like the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Sub-Committee on Policing.
Her research spans biometric identification technologies (e.g., facial recognition, DNA profiling), predictive policing, and AI-enabled surveillance. Notable projects include the ESRC-funded 'Emotional AI in Cities' (2020-23) and EPSRC-funded 'Critically Exploring Biometric AI Futures'.
