Dr. Dhruv Sookhoo is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Urbanism and Deputy Programme Leader for MA Architecture and Urbanism at Manchester School of Architecture (Manchester Metropolitan University). A chartered architect (ARB, RIBA), chartered town planner (MRTPI), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), his work bridges academia and professional practice. His leadership includes founding the Urban Laboratory 'Dwelling and Urbanism,' where he directs research on suburban innovation and housing quality challenges in the UK.
His research examines mass housing production, design governance, architecture/planning professionalism, and community participation frameworks. Current projects include Suburbia Reimagined, exploring design strategies for healthier suburban neighborhoods in Manchester, and collaborative studies on housing standardization and community-led development.
Dhruv maintains active professional engagement as a UK Adaption Assessor (ARB), RTPI Partnership Board Chair (University College Dublin), and RIBA Awards Juror. He received the RTPI North East Chair’s 2015 Planning Excellence Award for Placemaking through Innovation.
His funded collaborations include projects with TU Berlin (practice-based research strategies) and TÜBİTAK (community land trusts). He previously held roles as Head of Research at Metropolitan Workshop and Head of Design at Home Group, shaping national housing standards and design governance policy.
