Dharinee Hansjee

Dharinee Hansjee is a Senior Lecturer, Academic Portfolio Lead, and Programme Lead in Speech and Language Therapy at the School of Health Sciences, University of Greenwich. With over 20 years of clinical experience, she specializes in dysphagia practice, having worked in acute and community settings across Southwest England, London, and the Southeast. She holds an MSc in Advanced Practice (Leadership) from King’s College London and is completing a PhD by Published Works.

Research Interests:

Her work focuses on improving outcomes for individuals with dysphagia, including clinical practice leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, and medicines management for older adults in care homes. She has contributed to NICE-endorsed guidelines and collaborates with NHS Improvement, the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT), and the Patients Association.

Advising & Collaborations:

As an RCSLT Trustee and national dysphagia advisor, she leads working groups on clinical practice and policy. She contributed to the British Medical Association’s guidance on Clinically Assisted Nutrition and Hydration and co-developed a care home medicines management charter endorsed by NICE.

Professional Background:

Prior to academia, she was Head of Speech & Language Therapy at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, and an honorary lecturer at City, University of London.
