Dev Priya Arya is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Clemson University, part of the College of Science. He holds research and office spaces in Hunter Hall (340 and 440 for labs, 461 for office). His academic journey includes a B.Sc. (Chemistry) from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and a Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry from Northeastern University. He completed his postdoctoral research under Prof. T. C. Bruice at UC Santa Barbara before joining Clemson's faculty.
- Education:
- B.Sc., St. Stephen's College, Delhi (Chemistry Honors)
- Ph.D., Northeastern University (Bioorganic Chemistry)
His research focuses on organic synthesis, molecular recognition, and supramolecular chemistry to develop drug candidates targeting nucleic acids and proteins. This work bridges organic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology, yielding leads in antimicrobial, anticancer, and HIV therapies. His interdisciplinary projects have resulted in patents and publications.
- Awards:
- National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2002)
- ACS Horace S. Isbell Award (2007)
Professional service includes leadership roles in the ACS Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry, serving as Program Chair (2004–2008), Chair-Elect (2009–2010), and Chair (2010–2011). His research is funded by grants such as the NSF CAREER Award.
Labs are located in Hunter Hall 340 and 440, and his office is in Hunter Hall 461.
