Dev Majumdar

Dev Majumdar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Vermont. His lab combines B cell immunology with RNA biology to study mRNA vaccines, SARS-CoV-2 mechanisms, and RNA regulation in immune cells. He holds a BS from MIT and a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from UCLA, followed by postdoctoral work at Caltech and additional training at the Guttman Lab.

Majumdar's research focuses on:

• Developing next-generation mRNA vaccines and therapeutics using lipid nanoparticles
• Investigating SARS-CoV-2 viral replication mechanisms, particularly double-membrane vesicles (DMVs)
• Studying RNA regulatory processes in B cell development and antibody production
• Applying microfluidics and single-molecule techniques to biological questions

His publications demonstrate strong interdisciplinary focus, with recent work spanning immunology (40%), virology (25%), biophysics (20%), and nanotechnology (15%). Dominant themes include mRNA vaccine mechanisms, SARS-CoV-2 host interactions, T/B cell biology, and novel imaging/delivery platforms.

Majumdar actively mentors graduate and undergraduate researchers, with current advisees including Jacob Dearborn, Will Dowell, and Tylar Kirch. Alumni have pursued advanced degrees at institutions like Cornell and Dartmouth. His lab collaborates extensively with UVM colleagues in immunology, vascular biology, and COVID-19 research.

The Majumdar Lab operates at the Health Science Research Facility 306, developing cutting-edge approaches at the immunology-RNA biology interface. Current projects include machine learning applications for immune repertoire analysis and CRISPR-based studies of trauma-induced immune responses.
