Detlef Briesen

Prof. Dr. Detlef Briesen serves as a Senior Lecturer at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, and functions as a foreign guest lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University. Since 2010, he has also held the position of DAAD counsellor for India and Vietnam, facilitating academic collaboration between German and Asian institutions.

His academic credentials include an Academic state exam (1985), PhD (1990), and habilitation (1998). His teaching career spans over three decades with extensive international engagement across Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Asia through numerous research projects funded by DAAD, EU, Volkswagenwerk Foundation, Gerda-Henkel Foundation, and DFG.

Dr. Briesen's primary research focuses on societal space development in modern and postmodern contexts. His work bridges political science, environmental studies, and media analysis with particular emphasis on German-Vietnamese comparative research:

Dr. Briesen actively supervises seven PhD candidates and organizes international conferences including recent events on spatial planning in Berlin (2022) and media-politics-environment intersections in New Delhi (2022). He works closely with the German Academy of Spatial Development in the Leibniz Association and promotes German-Vietnamese academic collaboration through student exchanges, joint research projects, and faculty development initiatives.
