Desmond Brett is a Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Fine Art (Sculpture) and Subject Leader for the MA Fine Art program. He previously served as a Lecturer in Fine Art at York St. John University and Programme Leader at Hull School of Art & Design. Currently a PhD candidate in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art, his work explores the expansion and re-imagining of sculptural traditions through material-led enquiry.
His research focuses on materiality, process, and the interplay between sculpture and painting. Practice emphasizes abstract, site-responsive forms emerging from speculative drawings and improvisational methods. Exhibitions include 'Daybreak' (2017, RCA Research exhibition), 'Fountain ’17' (2017, touring), and numerous group shows since 2001 across institutions like Huddersfield Gallery and Outpost Gallery.
No scientific awards or grants are explicitly mentioned, though his exhibitions highlight active engagement in the art community. His work is featured on his personal website.
