Desirée Schmuck

Desirée Schmuck is a full professor at the Institute of Journalism and Communication Studies, University of Vienna, holding the Professorship for Media Change and Media Innovation. She is also affiliated with the School for Mass Communication Research at KU Leuven in Belgium.

• Doctorate (Dr. phil.) from the University of Vienna (2017)

Her research examines the societal impacts of media change and innovation, particularly:

• Digital media effects on childhood and adolescence
• Political engagement through social media
• Intergroup relations in digital contexts
• Media autonomy and self-determination

She serves on the editorial boards of Media Psychology and the Journal of Media Psychology, and leads projects like InformMe! (funded by the Belgian Research Fund) and the €1.8M inter-university POLKNOW initiative.
