Derrick Chong

Derrick Chong is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing & Arts Management at the School of Business and Management, Royal Holloway, University of London. He serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Senior Tutor, overseeing academic administration. His educational background includes a BComm from the University of Toronto, an MBA from McGill University, an MA in Art History from York University, and a PhD from the University of London. Prior to academia, he worked in advertising in Canada.

Chong's research critically examines intersections between management and the arts, drawing on institutional critique (notably Hans Haacke), arts sponsorship controversies (e.g., BP-Tate), and the financialization of art. His publications analyze art markets, museum governance, and corporate responsibility. He explores tensions in capitalism through pedagogical frameworks merging Peter Drucker's management theories and John Berger's visual culture critiques.

His recent publications (2018–2024) focus on art markets, sustainable consumption, museum politicization, and pedagogical innovation. Works consistently address power dynamics in cultural institutions, ethical challenges in arts financing, and critical approaches to management education.
