Dermot Hughes

Dermot Hughes is a Lead Researcher at SDU’s ReCaP (Research Centre for Advanced Photonics) and Technical Manager at NVP Energy. He holds a PhD in Microbiology (2011) and a BSc in Environmental Science (both from National University of Ireland, Galway). His expertise spans wastewater bioengineering, molecular microbial ecology, and low-temperature anaerobic digestion for industrial wastewater treatment.

As Technical Manager at NVP Energy since 2016, he oversees technology design and development, leveraging his decade-long research on NVP’s core technology at NUI Galway. Previously, he conducted postdoctoral research funded by Enterprise Ireland, focusing on sustainable wastewater solutions.

His work bridges academic research and industrial application, emphasizing environmental sustainability and cost-effective biogas production. Collaborations with companies like ABP Food Group highlight his practical impact in scaling eco-friendly technologies.
