Derek Chew is a Professor of Cardiology at Flinders University and Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Edwards Heart Foundation. He serves as Regional Director of Cardiology for the Adelaide Health Service (Southern Region) and chairs the Statewide Cardiology Clinical Network. His clinical and research career focuses on translating cardiology therapies and technologies into improved patient outcomes through large-scale clinical trials and health systems innovation.

His research interests span acute coronary syndromes, machine learning, health informatics, and translational research. Recent work integrates AI into emergency cardiac care (RAPIDx AI) and evaluates cost-effective diagnostic protocols for troponin assays.
Key scientific recognitions include the Edwards Heart Foundation Senior Research Fellowship and the Matthew Flinders Fellowship. Prof Chew has secured over $15M in research funding and led major collaborations with institutions like SAHMRI and the Flinders Digital Health Research Centre.
