Derek Bunn

Professor Derek Bunn is a permanent faculty member at London Business School, where he holds the academic rank of Professor in Decision Sciences, Management Science, and Operations. He serves as Chief Examiner and has authored over 250 research papers and 9 books in forecasting, decision analysis, and energy economics. With degrees from the University of Cambridge (MA) and London Business School (PhD), he has been a pivotal figure in academia and industry for decades.

His research interests span business forecasting, decision technology, and electricity/energy economics, with a focus on practical applications in energy markets and policy. He has acted as a special advisor to the UK House of Commons Select Committee on Energy and Climate Change and served as Expert Witness in High Court and international tribunal cases.

• Editorial Roles: Chief Editor of the Journal of Forecasting and Energy Economics; Founding Editor of the Journal of Energy Markets; Editorial Board member for 11 journals including Management Science.
• Leadership Roles: Chairman of the UK Government Panel of Technical Experts for the Electricity Market; Independent Member of the industry panel overseeing wholesale electricity trading.

He has received prestigious honors such as the Goodeve Medal from the UK Operational Research Society and the CEGB Fellowship in Engineering from Oxford University. His work is widely cited and translated, reflecting global impact.
