Richard Green is Professor of Sustainable Energy Business and Head of the Department of Economics and Public Policy at Imperial College Business School. He joined Imperial in 2011 after holding previous professorships at the University of Birmingham (where he directed the Institute for Energy Research and Policy) and the University of Hull. His career began at the University of Cambridge's Department of Applied Economics and Fitzwilliam College.
Professor Green specializes in electricity economics with 35+ years of research focusing on:
- Market dynamics in wholesale electricity markets
- Transmission pricing mechanisms
- Impact of low-carbon technologies (nuclear/renewables)
- Energy storage integration strategies
- Business and policy implications of energy transitions
He leads multiple cross-disciplinary initiatives including:

Professor Green serves as Editor of The Energy Journal (IAEE) and chaired the British Institute for Energy Economics in 2016. He maintains visiting affiliations with MIT, World Bank, and UC Energy Institute.
