معرفی
Derek Briggs is a Professor at the School of Education, University of Colorado at Boulder, and Director of the Center for Assessment Design Research and Evaluation (CADRE). His work focuses on advancing methods for assessing student learning, bridging classroom assessment with high-stakes testing, and enhancing psychometric rigor.
Education
- PhD in Education, University of California, Berkeley (2002)
- MA in Education, University of California, Berkeley (1998)
- BA in Economics, Carleton College (1993)
Research Interests
Briggs explores foundational issues in educational measurement, including the validity of standardized tests, causal inference in evaluating educational interventions, and the development of learning progressions to track student growth. He critiques methodological assumptions in psychometrics and advocates for transparency in statistical modeling.
His recent publications emphasize vertical scaling, item response theory, and the ethical dimensions of educational assessment. Briggs also investigates how test preparation affects college admissions exams and how to align classroom instruction with large-scale assessment frameworks.
Scientific Awards
- Fellow of the American Educational Research Association
- Member of the National Academy of Education
- Award from the National Council on Measurement in Education
- Provost’s Achievement Award, University of Colorado
Teaching
He teaches graduate courses in quantitative methods, including Measurement in Survey Research, Psychometric Modeling (IRT), and Latent Variable Modeling, emphasizing the practical application of statistical techniques to educational research.
